As befitting a sophisticated, international jet set destination, Monaco has more than its fair share of music venues, concerts, and festivals. The principalities appreciation of the Arts is reflected in an excitingly diverse music culture. Monaco’s musical calendar of events ranges from operatic premieres to the groove of world-class jazz, and from contemporary DJ beats to wonderful classical arrangements.


The music scene in Monaco is about enjoyment, entertainment, and live performance. It is about experiences, passion, and creation. One of the real pleasures of life in Monaco is the richness of the city’s art, music, and culture. Concerts are regularly played by the Monte Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra which began in its earliest form in the 1850s. Attracting many renowned musicians and conductors, a real claim to fame was when Richard Strauss conducted his work in 1937.


While placing bets in Monaco’s casinos may be off limits for the principality’s residents, the opera house located in the Monte Carlo Casino is not. Home to the Monte Carlo Opera, the ornate space of the Salle Garnier has welcomed some of opera’s greatest from the world stage. In fact, there have been 45 world premier musical productions held in the venue since it first opened its glittering doors to expand Monaco’s cultural pursuits over 120 years ago.


The Salle Garnier also plays out classical concerts, and world-famous singers perform to every audience in this gem of a venue. The place is also home to the renowned Monte Carlo Jazz Festival, an annual event held for over 10 years that brings an extra feeling of energy to not just the stage, but the city as a whole; adding to Monaco’s hip factor.


The Place du Casino is a vibrant and lively meeting place where open-air concerts and big musical extravaganzas are performed for residents and visitors alike. An attractive square, the Monte Carlo Casino, and famed Hotel de Paris surround the heart and soul of Monaco’s glamorous crowds with an electric atmosphere.


For over 30 years, an ongoing program of concerts and the Monte Carlo Sporting Summer Festival has paraded the likes of Lady Gaga and Santana to audiences in the stunning La Salles des Etoiles. With a roof that opens up, musical stars can perform under the stars to glittering applause. Big-name acts flock to the French Riviera to perform in this magical venue.


Espace Léo Ferré with its Salle du Canton space is run by the local government and is an important musical and cultural venue for Monaco. Overlooking the harbor, the modern facilities host interesting and varied performances. These include musical comedy company pieces and the Academy of Music.


A contemporary conference and congress center right on the seafront, the Grimaldi Forum is also home to several auditoriums with a full cultural diary of diverse events. The venue prides itself on breaking down barriers with a challenging program, big-name concerts are held here, with the likes of Lou Reed, the Black Eyed Peas, Sonic and Youssou N’dour performing across all genres from pop-rock to electro and world music.


The Monte Carlo Spring Arts Festival is over 30 years old and runs for five inspiring weekends. Mainly classical music concerts, the festival, has also played out baroque operas and jazz. The rousing concerts are accompanied by famous international soloists and at a time that it feels especially great to be in Monaco with gorgeous weather this is a must-experience for any Monte Carlo resident or visitor.


Other venues that host musically enticing shows and concerts include the Oceanographic Museum’s auditorium, the Princess Grace Theatre, the Salle Empire at the Hotel de Paris, and the Variety Theatre. With plenty of sunshine days too, there are glorious afternoons to have and hear to picnic music concerts played out on giant screens at lunchtime. The city even boasts its own government-appointed children’s choir to sing across the globe. The Little Singers of Monaco was founded over 40 years ago and continues Monaco’s musical traditions.
