Monaco Beach Clubs

Monaco exudes luxury, fine dining, and a stunning coastline; defining the glamour and sophistication of the French Riviera. It is, in essence, the absolute perfect location for beach club experiences. The beach club combines the ultimate in beach destination relaxation, from plush sun loungers to private, A-list style cabanas and day beds with floating curtains gently flapping against azure skies. Cocktail in hand and a gourmet dish close by, relaxing in the sun, people watching, and chic beach chilling never felt so good.

Forget the non-stop party vibe of beach clubs in some European destinations; Monaco is far more upmarket, and the classy beach bars reflect the stylish clientele. At the same time, just as Monaco seems to be able to project luxury and laid-back Riviera living, so too do the beach clubs with the same inimitable sense of style.

Monaco Beach Club

Accessible via the Monte Carlo Bay Hotel & Resort, think upscale cabanas, classic cocktails, and caviar on the menu. The Monaco Beach Club with its striped canvas tents by a private beach is the epitome of cool, seaside chic. With 200 tents, 120 cabins and 30 sun loungers to rent the Monaco Beach Club is all about fun in the sun with incredible water sports as well as fine dining with a gourmet menu of organic delights and wood-fired pizzas.

While lounging by the Olympic-sized seawater pool is a perfect way to while away a sunny day, with a kids’ pool close by too, there are plenty of activities, from parasailing to tubing, and flyboarding.

Nikki Beach

Open from morning until late at night; the famed Nikki Beach brand hardly needs an introduction to the hipster beach club lovers. Glamorously situated on the rooftop of the Fairmont Monte Carlo Hotel, Nikki Beach is definitely in Monaco’s ‘it’ crowd. Champagne and sun loungers, a pool party atmosphere with gourmet food; Nikki Beach even has a ‘sexy salad’ of lobster, shrimp, and crabmeat.

Events include sunset barbecues and Sunday brunches, with spectacular views from the al fresco restaurant and beautiful white daybeds by the pool with chandelier table-top nightlight stands. Nikki Beach is fun and creative while being uber-cool at the same time. The place to be and without a doubt the place to be seen.

La Note Bleue

Smooth sophistication with a stylish, musical swagger; La Note Bleue is a beach bar with a jazz lounge. Deck chairs and daybeds are this close to the water in a private section of Larvotto Beach. As the sun goes down, jazz musicians play giving the ambiance a wonderfully inviting vibe for such a cool and hip venue. The restaurant with its garden setting and white beach club décor, with olive trees and bamboo, give La Note Bleue a wonderfully classy feel; perfect for lounging in classic Monaco style.

With a menu that ranges from Pad Thai to grilled scallops with truffle risotto, La Note Bleue’s gourmet dishes are right at home with the ease and relaxed vibe of the beach club; upmarket yet chilled-out. For all its laid-back jazz notes, La Note Bleue attracts the well-heeled and designer-clad, albeit the understated, luxury set.

La Rose des Vents

For lovers of seafood and Italian cuisine, La Rose des Vents is a restaurant with red and white sun loungers and umbrellas available on Larvotto Beach too. The refined menu includes interesting appetizers such as sea bass fried balls with lambs lettuce and a ceviche trio of scallops, salmon, and sea bass. For mains, diners can sample grilled octopus and sole meunière.

The look is smart rather than sophisticated, and there is a traditional, almost homely atmosphere at La Rose des Vents which also serves classic Monegasque cuisine too in a prime location.

Miami Plage

Close to La Rose des Vents, Miami Plage is another restaurant with a private beachfront on Larvotto Beach. Running for over 35 years, Miami Plage is a Monaco institution for those looking for prime beach front with less of a hip vibe.

The lounge chairs are all white, and you can rent a deckchair and parasol or a cabin for the day, but the vibe at Miami Plage is a little less gourmet than some of Monaco’s upmarket eateries. However, with a carpaccio of beer with pear, hazelnuts and parmesan cheese on the appetizer menu and fish and chips as a main, the menu spans both fine dining and relaxed beachside dining.

Other beach clubs worthy of note, not far from Monaco, include Paloma Beach at St Jean Cap Ferrat, a beautiful beach club that first opened in 1948, with generous day beds and a wonderful family vibe too. Anjuna Beach at Eze has a quirky style with a feel of Southeast Asia and the Indian Ocean, plus a private beach with deck chairs in front of the beachfront restaurant. A menu of fresh Mediterranean dishes ranges from crisp rocket salad with pine nuts to extravagant gourmet dishes such as suckling pig with bacon and artichokes and lamb confit.
